I spent much of my adult life working as an electronics engineer and technician, which led me to software development and web design work. I've also enjoyed building things all of my life, which led me to start a small construction company that I ran for a number of years. I do a little live sound reinforcement and DJ/music services stuff occasionally. I consider myself to be semi-retired, now, which is a euphemism for not liking to work any more than absolutely necessary. Unfortunetly, I have more damn stuff to do around the house than a full-time job would entail. I play guitar, write a little music, love motorcycles and just about any other oddball vehicle with an engine in it that the media folks consider to be dangerous. I love dogs and critters of all kinds. Over the years, I've had some of the strangest pets you can imagine.
A few years back, my wife and I bought a house in a small town that sits on a large, double lot. We now spend the majority of our money and time trying to turn the 100+ year old disaster into something suitable to live in. The lawn mowing alone is a daunting task, so we plant bushes and trees every year, build outbuildings, decks and patios, and a huge garden just to cut down on the amount of actual lawn. The folks down at City Hall refused to issue us a permit to cover the whole works with molten lava.
We always have at least two dogs, which we adopt from shelters. We've been unusually lucky in that the last four have been purebred dogs that people just got tired of owning, but turned into exceptionally good dogs. We spoil them all rotten. We believe that there are no bad dogs, just shitty humans who get them for the wrong reasons.
I got interested in distributed computing when my brother, team co-founder Skip Da Shu, convinced me to put my computers to work doing something productive when they are idle. It took me about a week to become an addict. In April of 2006, I formed the team and Skip left a very big team to join and help me get it rolling. The first year was pretty slow going, but we've been fortunate to get some very good, dedicated members along the way. At the time of this writing, we are currently ranked in the top 100 teams in the world. Not bad for a small team with only a handful of really active members. My hope is that the team will continue to grow and that we will attract both casual crunchers and maybe a few more hardcore addicts. It is my sincere hope that we can keep the small team atmosphere and sense of family that we currently enjoy with our team.
Members and those interested in our team should always feel free to contact me at any time about anything I can help them with regarding the team. It will give me an excuse to put off the mowing for another day.
