Today we hit a big milestone… we’re now ranked 250 in the world, overall BOINC rankings. In less than three years, tens of thousands of positions went by… against some very stiff competition. For a team with 15 active members, I think that’s a huge accomplishment!

Congratulations, team! This winter, my goal will be to add a couple of more quad-core crunchers to the Cornfield Crate Cruncher stack… and to recruit a few more dedicated members… so that we can keep ourselves in the top 250 ranked teams.

We’d like to welcome our newest members to the team and to thank all of our current membership for sticking with us and helping to make the Guru Mountain DC Team the best small team out there! Of the 36 BOINC projects the team is currently crunching for, we have gotten 25 of them into the top 100 in the world rankings. Of those, 5 are in the top 50 and of those, 3 are in the top 30. That’s not shabby at all, for a team with about 15 active members, at this time.

Every member’s contribution matters to us, large or small, and we want to pass on how proud we are of this team. Not because it’s “our” team… all we did was form the team, which took five minutes, and hope for the best. And we got the best. We have a small team of dedicated enthusiasts who don’t squabble or sweat the small stuff. And other great folks are finding us and joining. It’s not a stampede, but that’s ok. We’re still a small team, but we’re not slackers. We’re making a pretty good showing in the world rankings, chalking up alot of hours of crunch time for the projects we love and now all the cool kids want to hang out with us computer geeks. Ok, maybe we’re not quite there yet, but hey… there’s still time.

I’ve redesigned the DC Team website, so it will be a few days before everything is set up correctly and I get the themes for the SITE NEWS weblog and the BBS FORUMS matched to the new design. Please bear with us while we work on this. The new design will be easier for us to maintain and expand. It has improved navigation and new features that should make things easier for everyone.

UPDATE: Sept 5, 2008 - Everything is up and working.
